Renovations of Homes, Buildings Main Reason for Exposure to Asbestos

3/16/2011 by LegalView under Asbestos & Mesothelioma

Although asbestos is rarely used in new homes and new building there is still a risk for exposure. Asbestos still exists in the United States and exposure to asbestos often occurs during renovations of older homes and older buildings. Until the 1970’s many homes and buildings were constructed with asbestos used as an insulation and fire retardant.

Today, when a demolition occurs and the asbestos is disturbed the fibers can become airborne. Any inhalation of these asbestos fibers puts workers or homeowners at risk of contracting mesothelioma. The amount of asbestos used prior to the 1970s is incalculable. Every time a renovation is done in an older home or building, there is a possibility of asbestos fibers being released that could contaminate the home or put someone at risk for mesothelioma.

Before doing any renovations please consult an expert to determine if there is a chance that you can be exposed to asbestos. Contact LegalView for a free mesothelioma law consultation at 866-9LAW-NOW.
