Ex-Coke Secretary Gets 8 Years
Joya Williams, a former secretary for Coca-Cola, was convicted of conspiracy to steal trade secrets from Coca-Cola and has been sentenced to eight years in federal prison. Williams and Ibrahim Dimson plotted to sell Coca-Cola's recipe secrets to Pepsi for at least $1.5 million. U.S. District Judge J. Own Forrester said that "this is the kind of offense that cannot be tolerated in out society."
Forrester gave Williams a more severe sentence than the 63- to 78- month sentence that was recommended by federal prosecutors and federal sentencing guidelines. Forrester said that he did so because "I can't think of another case in 25 years that there's been so much obstruction of justice." Williams tearfully apologized for her actions: "Your honor, I have expanded my consciousness through this devastating experience. This has been a very defining moment in my life I have become infamous when I never wanted to become famous." Related Links:
