Traumatic brain injury in Marines on the rise

A recent article in Florida Today states that brain injury in soldiers returning from the war in Iraq is an epidemic that needs to be halted.

Permanent brain damage in Iraq soldiers is caused by concussions due to repeated exposure to bomb blasts; however, this condition often goes undiagnosed for months or even years after injury. The editorial coincides with a Congressional hearing to discuss helmet improvements for Marines fighting in Iraq. Organizations like Operation Helmet are fighting a battle to get members of all the armed forces consistent and safe padding to prevent traumatic brain injury and related side effects.
